Coleto Creek
Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003
American Bass Anglers District 51, Alamo District, fished its first tournament of the 2003-04 season on Coleto Creek on 8 November. Don't know what it is about this lake but everytime we fish it the weather is tough. We fished in 15-20 mph winds out of the north with the temperature in the upper 50s low 60's. Despite the arrival of a cold front, the fishing was pretty good. The water temp was 68-69 degrees and the west creek was reasonably clear. The east creek was more stained but still fishable. The power plant is shut down for maintenance so we experienced cooler water than usual. Now for the fishing stuff. Several of us caught fish flipping the wood. Key being the wood located on steeper banks. The winner was on a totally different pattern. He was throwing Bassassins to fish feeding on shad in the shallows. He was up the east creek...somewhere. Managed to weigh in 13 pounds. The big fish, 6.01, came off the flipping pattern. The grass looks good but seemed to give up only small fish. Not much else I can add. Fish when you can and work when you have to. Ronald D. Daugherty Director: ABA Alamo District 51
